From theory to practice: how are business leaders nurtured? Lessons from the Ignatian-inspired perspective
Abstract
It is not enough to have theories about what good leadership is or what characteristics we want a leader to have. There is a need for evidence of successful leadership development models. Much research has analyzed the influence of religion on leadership, which links moral and spiritual development. This is evident in areas such as decision-making, people management, the definition of the organization’s mission, social responsibility towards those affected, the meaning of work and the search for meaning, care in the development of professional careers etc. Following examples related to the Society of Jesus, a leadership development model coupled with training on values should have a holistic approach that takes into account several steps: personalized planning, experiences and tests, reflection, evaluation, training and readings, accompaniment and tutoring.
