Data Exchange and Reproducibility Policy
The Bulletin of Economic Studies is committed to promoting transparency, reproducibility and openness in scientific research. We believe that data sharing is essential to ensure the validity, replicability and reusability of research results.
Fundamental Principles
- Transparency: Authors should describe clearly and in detail the methods, analyses and data used in their research.
- Reproducibility: The results presented must be sufficiently detailed to allow other researchers to independently replicate them.
- Open Access: As far as possible, the data underlying published articles should be made openly available and accessible.
Requirements for Authors
- Data Availability:
- Authors should make the data underlying their research publicly available, whenever possible and within legal and ethical constraints.
- Data should be available in a readable and accessible format, preferably in recognised data repositories.
- A persistent identifier (DOI) must be provided for the datasets.
- Detailed Description:
- Authors should include a detailed description of the data, including its origin, format, collection methods and any restrictions on its use.
- Computer code (if applicable) should be provided for data cleaning, analysis and visualisation.
- Licences of Use:
- Authors should specify the licence under which the data is shared, prioritising open licences that allow reuse.
Exceptions and Considerations
- Privacy and Confidentiality: Data protection laws and confidentiality agreements will be respected.
- Sensitive Data: In case of sensitive data, authors should justify the impossibility of sharing it and explore alternatives to ensure transparency.
- Intellectual Property Rights: The copyright and intellectual property rights of third parties shall be respected.
Benefits for Authors
- Increased visibility and citation: Articles with accessible data tend to be more cited and have greater impact.
- Scientific collaboration: Data sharing facilitates collaboration between researchers and the advancement of knowledge.
- Validation of results: The replicability of results strengthens the credibility of the research.
The Bulletin of Economic Studies reserves the right to request additional information on the data and to assess the suitability of the data for publication.
