Focus and Scope
The Bulletin of Economic Studies (BEE) is a peer-reviewed, Open-Access journal that publishes original manuscripts primarily aimed at disseminating knowledge and promoting the transfer of research outputs from the fields of economics and business management.
The BEE publishes papers in both Spanish and English. It invites submissions that address matters relevant to practitioners that aim to be at the cutting edge of many areas of economics and management science, specifically in these areas: entrepreneurship, leadership and people management, economic analysis, finance and accounting, marketing, strategic management and innovation, business ethics and data and digitalization.
More specifically, it seeks to provide a forum for in-depth practical contributions with implications that are particularly (but not solely) relevant to an international professional audience in the economics and management arena. The BEE mission, therefore, is to build bridges that promote relationships and dialogue between academia and practitioners, through publishing contributions that showcase the value of both approaches in the scope of management practice.
The three hallmarks of the BEE are the following. First, contributions that are relevant to practitioners in the fields of economic analysis and business management. Second, a transversal approach across different management areas. And, finally, dissemination of research results in both Spanish and English languages, mainly aimed at the Spanish-speaking practitioners’ community.
The Table of Contents and the Presentation of each issue is published in both English and Spanish. For manuscripts written in Spanish, the titles and abstracts will also be published in English.
The BEE editors-in-chief are responsible for the content of the entire Journal, including special issues
Publication Frequency
BULLETIN OF ECONOMIC STUDIES publishes at least one issue per year. The Journal publishes both contributions submitted for review consideration and thematic contributions to be published in Special Issues, once the peer-review process has been completed. Currently, Journal issues are published in both digital and print formats.
Fees
The Journal does not charge any fees for manuscript submission, processing, and publication..
Production, Publication, and Distribution
Under the coordination of the Managing Editor (ME), accepted manuscripts are copyedited for publication. For each copyediting round, authors normally have up to three (3) working days to act upon suggested changes. Once copyediting is completed, the ME assigns a Digital Object Identifier (DOI) to each paper before moving it to the typesetting and proofreading stage. Authors will receive PDF proofs for final check (of basically typographical and formatting errors), together with the copyright transfer form by email attachment (to be completed, dated, signed, and returned to the ME). They are expected to give their feedback within three (3) working days of receipt. Exceptionally, more than one round of proofreading by authors may take place. Substantive changes to the content and or structure of the manuscript at this stage require the approval of the Journal editor.
The responsibility to check the proofs rests primarily with the author(s). Neither the Journal editorial staff nor the Publisher can be held responsible for errors that remain in the published version which the author(s) should have amended.
Final proofs (as checked by the author(s)) are published as a Journal issue, first online (in PDF and HTML formats) and then in print format. Upon online publication of each issue, automatic notifications are sent from the Journal platform to authors, editors, reviewers, and registered users who have chosen to be notified. New issue content metadata are subsequently submitted to various indexing and cataloguing service providers.
More than 7,000 printed copies are distributed to the Deusto Business Alumni associates and a number of print copies are made available for internal distribution (to authorities, libraries, record and archive services, and visiting researchers). Depending on availability, free print copies are also provided to authors, reviewers, section editors (of each issue), editorial board members, and key strategic partners of Deusto Business Alumni. Other interested persons and entities may order printed copies of an article or issue. These are professionally printed and finished color copies. There is a cost for printed copies. Requests should be sent by e-mail to the journal's Secretariat at beejournal@deusto.es.
Advertising
The Journal does not accept any advertising in the electronic version. This is done in order to maintain the reading experience and the integrity of the digital content. Advertising is only accepted from sponsors for the printed version. The Deusto Business Alumni (DBA) sets the criteria for acceptance and types of advertisements to be published. In any case, advertisements in the print version are not related in any way to editorial decision making and are kept separate from the published content.
Journal History
The Bulletin of Economic Studies is one of the oldest journals on economic and business issues in Spanish-speaking academia, since it was first published in 1942. The BEE is the Journal of the Deusto Business Alumni, the Alumni Network of Deusto Business School (University of Deusto, Spain). In 2020 a thorough process of reflection was undertaken regarding the Journal, which led to update its editorial policy, content, editorial board, publishing frequency and online availability. Issues prior to December 2021 are available in the ProQuest database (see Previous Issues to 2021).

Deusto Business Alumni (DBA) is a community made up of the alumni of Deusto Business School-University of Deusto. It includes more than 7,000 people (aged from 21 to over 90 years of age), who live and work mainly in the Basque Country and Madrid. Its members work in more than 2,700 different companies across a wide range of positions and areas. The DBA has autonomy in the management of projects. It is funded by its members’ fees, and by sponsorships from companies with which it has been collaborating for years. The Association was born with the purpose of fostering a spirit of collaboration among its members and this continues to be its primary value after all these years.
