Coaching and Mentoring as a Tool to Promote Entrepreneurship From Family Business and Universities
Specificities and symbiosis
Abstract
The article discusses how business families and universities can foster entrepreneurship in a territory, considering their specific roles and contributions within the entrepreneurial ecosystem. It highlights how both business families and universities can work together to foster entrepreneurial attitudes and support entrepreneurs at different stages of their business.
Entrepreneurial families can influence entrepreneurial attitudes through entrepreneurial stories and emotional support. They also provide material and financial resources, create networks of contacts, and offer mentoring through their experienced members. Universities, on the other hand, can play a key role in training and developing entrepreneurial skills in their students. They can also act as relationship hubs and facilitate collaboration between entrepreneurial families and entrepreneurial students.
Two practical experiences are illustrated: an innovation and entrepreneurship program in a university that focuses on the development of entrepreneurial attitudes at the personal level, and an approach in Manizales, Colombia, where entrepreneurial families have played a crucial role in the development of the entrepreneurial ecosystem through mentoring programs and financial support.
It discusses how coaching and mentoring can play complementary roles at different stages of entrepreneurship. Coaching focuses on personal development and self-awareness, while mentoring provides experience-based guidance to overcome specific business challenges. It is emphasized that both contributions are essential for entrepreneurial success and that synergies between universities and entrepreneurial families can significantly enrich the entrepreneurial ecosystem of a territory.
